Information about Paleochora
Paleochora (or Paliochora and Paleohora as you might find it),
is located in the province of Chania, on the island of Crete
and lies along the Southern boundary of Greece.
Paleochora is 70 km far from Chania and 200 km far from Heraklion.
It is a small
peninsula projecting into the Libyan sea and is also called the
"Libyan Bride" and the "Sunland".
Paleochora is now inhabited by approximately 2500 people.
The landscape is magnificent and this area offers a large variety of hotels,
rooms and hostels at the best prices and for all tastes.
It is said that in Paleochora you can find the best coastlines of the island.
Paleochora is well ordered and able to offer whatever the holidaymaker
may need, like, for example, Banks, Doctors, Pharmacies, Police
Station, Post Office, Telecommunication Facilities, Port Office,
Cinemas, Bars, Clubs etc.
Paleochora can also become the ideal base from which to tour by
car or bus around the neighbouring towns and villages or by boat
to other parts of the island.
You are able to visit archeological and historical monuments, Byzantine churches and monasteries, museums, famous gorges like Samaria’s, Agias Irene’s etc, archeological cities like Lissos, Elyros, Kandania, caves, coastlines etc.
We have a daily sea transportation to Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Loutro. Sfakia, Elafonissos and Gaydos. We also have daily afternoon cruises in order to meet the dolphins and whales of the area.
In Paleochora you can also find European walking paths E4 & E1
and all of them end in a wonderful beach. Other water activities are
swimming, fishing, surfing, water ski, underwater fishing & photographing,
jet ski, sailing, parachute etc. One thing is for sure, you will never
get bored in Paleochora.
In the evening, the main streets are closed to all types of vehicles and
open only to pedestrians. Free from traffic and noise as the daytime
activities give way to tranquillity and romance, you can enjoy your
walk, dinner or coffee time on the coastal or central paths of Paleochora.
Paleochora, whose beaches have been awarded the "Honoured Blue Flag"
by the E.C, has established a reputation as an ideal holiday area.
